Strategic corridor
Red Sea & Gulf of Aden
The Red Sea and Gulf of Aden form the intersection where Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, and global shipping meet. A significant share of world seaborne trade and energy passes through Bab al-Mandab and the Suez approaches, making the corridor a chokepoint whose disruption is felt in freight rates, insurance markets, and supply chains far beyond the region.
The corridor is also a political space. Port concessions, naval basing, coastal insurgency, and competing external partnerships all shape who controls access and on what terms. We track the corridor as an integrated file — maritime security, port and logistics investment, coastal governance, and the diplomacy surrounding them.
